Hello.

An exceedingly difficult two years is almost over. While we are not out of the pandemic woods yet, it does appear that the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel is starting to come into view. Our community of Ditmas Park, Brooklyn has been particularly hard hit, with large numbers of COVID-19 cases early in the course of the pandemic, some of them our friends and neighbors. Even when the pandemic is finally under control, we will be dealing with the repercussions, emotional as well as financial, for a long time. The impact to local businesses is a particular concern and we must all be thinking of ways to support them.

We very much appreciate your patience as we have struggled to get Joaquin and the Pekkybirds out into the world with slower than normal production times due to illness and printing delays.

Ditmas Park Publishing is also excited to announce the publication of The Adventures of Cordell, by author Dee Michalowski. With its rhythmic style and vibrant illustrations by Geoff Crowe, The Adventures of Cordell is a captivating story about a fearless cat with a thirst for excitement. Young readers (ages 3-8) will enjoy this exhilarating tale that follows a spirited explorer on an unforgettable quest.

Your friends at Ditmas Park Publishing can’t wait for you to add Joaquin and the Pekkybirds and The Adventures of Cordell to your library. Stay tuned for updates and thanks so much for your support.

Joaquin and the Pekkybirds: A Brooklyn Story is seeking community support through a crowdfunding campaign.

During a time when building community and fostering acceptance is more important than ever, Brooklyn-based author Angela Welch and Louisville, Kentucky-based artist Geoff Crowe have created a children's book that serves as a celebration of community in one special neighborhood in the heart of Brooklyn: Ditmas Park.

Joaquin and the Pekkybirds: A Brooklyn Story is an illustrated tale for children of all ages. It follows a boy through neighborhood adventures as he wrestles with and manages his own feelings, thanks to the appearance of a mysterious bird. Set in a particularly diverse area of Brooklyn, children of many backgrounds, often underrepresented in children's literature, will see themselves naturally on the pages of this book.

WELCOME TO

Ditmas Park Publishing is a different kind of publisher, a colorful, artistic and vibrant kind.

Ditmas Park Publishing (DPP) was formed in the summer of 2019, for the purpose of publishing the children’s book "Joaquin and the Pekkybirds, A Brooklyn Story." Soon after starting DPP, it occurred to us that there were many other stories to be told in this little neighborhood of ours, and that DPP could help bring those stories to fruition.

If you have a story you’d like to tell, DPP can help. We offer writing classes, editing and self-publishing consulting services, and if you need help with illustrations, we also have several artists in our network.

Ditmas Park is a vibrant, creative place to live and work. There are many, artists of all flavors here. And yes, as our logo implies, there are wild parrots looming around; The Quaker Parrot. There are different theories as to how they ended up in Brooklyn, but like all of us, however they got here, this is now their home.
